The Atlanta Falcons made a pair of moves on Thursday afternoon involving a familiar face. They re-signed wide receiver Damiere Byrd according to Tory McElhaney of the Atlanta Falcons.
“The Falcons have signed WR Damiere Byrd to the practice squad. Keilahn Harris has been placed on practice squad IR,” reported McElhaney on TwiX.
Byrd is a 5’9 and 175-pound veteran who started 14 games for the Falcons last year. He had 13 catches for 268 yards.
Prior to his stint with the Falcons, he spent his first-three seasons with the Carolina Panthers. He spent a season each with the Arizona Cardinals, New England Patriots, and the Chicago Bears.
For his career, he has 130 catches, 1,689 yards and seven touchdown receptions.
Harris was the star of the Falcons’ final-preseason game. He led the team with six catches for 71 yards. He was a standout at Oklahoma Baptist University last season. He’s their career leader in virtually every-meaningful receiving stat and was a D2 All-American in 2022.
The Falcons are next in action on Sunday at 1 p.m. EST against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. They are 2.5-point underdogs according to ESPN Gamecast.
This is a chance for the Falcons’ passing game to get on track. The Buccaneers defense is ranked 26th against the pass and No. 7 against the run. At 3-3, the Falcons are at a crossroads in their season. A win puts them back on track for a playoff berth.
A loss sends them to 3-4 and the questions surrounding Desmond Ridder and Arthur Smith will get louder and louder.
