Atlanta Falcons on the Move? ESPN’s Todd McShay Draft Buzz

The Atlanta Falcons have been one of the busiest teams during the free agent period. The NFL Draft is just a few days away with the Falcons holding the No. 8 overall pick on Thursday night.

ESPN’s Todd McShay thinks the Falcons could have a variety of options at No. 8, including the very tantalizing prospect of moving back in the first round.

After the Falcons waived veteran cornerback Casey Hayward on Friday, cornerback starts making even more sense at No. 8.

This might be the most likely cornerback selection in the top 10, as long as both Witherspoon and Gonzalez aren’t already off the board. Landing one of those two to play opposite A.J. Terrell gives this defense an extremely talented duo on the outside.

If neither are there, though, I gather the Falcons could explore a trade back. You also might have heard some rumblings about Texas running back Bijan Robinson here, and he could be the pick if the corners aren’t available.

One of cornerbacks Christian Gonzalez or Devon Witherspoon them should be available when Atlanta is on the clock. The Falcons would also like to see edge rushers Tyree Wilson and Will Anderson, but they could both be gone as well.

There are a lot of good options in the 10-15 range that would be an excellent spot for the Falcons to trade back for say… Georgia edge rusher Nolan Smith while picking up an additional second-round pick and change.

The Falcons have done enough work on their roster in free agency that they can truly stick to their best prospect available mantra.

If it doesn’t make sense to draft a running back like Robinson at No. 8 and there are a half dozen prospects they like relatively equally, trading down would be an excellent maneuver.

There’s been smoke the last week that the Falcons will explore that possibility.
