Could Falcons Target Zac Robinson for Offensive Coordinator?

The Atlanta Falcons didn’t hire one of the hottest names of the 2024 coaching cycle as their next head coach. But with Raheem Morris coming to Atlanta, the Falcons could have an edge in hiring one of the most sought after offensive coordinator candidates this offseason — Zac Robinson.

While Robinson didn’t receive any consideration for head coaching positions, the demand for him this offseason has been high. It’s also still growing.

NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported on Friday that the Tampa Bay Buccaneers have requested to interview Robinson for their opening offensive coordinator role. The Buccaneers lost OC Dave Canales, who left to become the head coach of the Carolina Panthers.

The New Orleans Saints, Pittsburgh Steelers, New England Patriots and Las Vegas Raiders have also requested to interview Robinson.

The Falcons should add their name to that list. They could also have an advantage in hiring him.

Over the past three years, Morris and Robinson worked together on the same Los Angeles Rams coaching staff. Robinson served as Los Angeles’ quarterbacks coach and passing game coordinator from 2022-23. During that time and in 2021, Morris was Rams defensive coordinator.

As the saying goes, familiarity breeds comfort. Robinson may find an offensive coordinator role with a more stable quarterback situation than Atlanta. But the current teams on Robinson’s interview list do not already have a coach on staff he has previously worked with in the NFL.

That’s not to say one won’t emerge. Rams head coach Sean McVay has connections all over the league with one of the biggest coaching trees in modern history. Perhaps another former Rams assistant will attempt to hire Robinson.

But for now, Morris and the Falcons appear to have the edge in bringing in the quarterbacks coach.

With Robinson as the team’s passing game coordinator this past season, the Rams finished 10th in passing yards. They were also 15th in passing touchdowns.

Two other coaches Falcons fans should keep an eye on for offensive coordinator are Kellen Moore and Brian Johnson. Moore coordinated the Los Angeles Chargers offense in 2023. The Chargers are cleaning house with Jim Harbaugh as their next head coach.

The Philadelphia Eagles parted ways with Johnson, who was their offensive coordinator in 2023, on Tuesday.
