The Atlanta Falcons didn’t wait long after hearing two-time Pro Bowl defensive tackle Grady Jarrett would miss the rest of the season before making a move.
NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported on October 30 that the Falcons acquired defensive tackle Kentavius Street from the Philadelphia Eagles in a late-round pick swap.
In addition to Street, the Falcons acquired a 2025 seventh-round from Philadelphia. In exchange, the Eagles received a conditional 2024 sixth-round choice from Atlanta.
A 27-year-old, Street is a former San Francisco 49ers fourth-round pick from the 2018 NFL draft. He spent his first three NFL seasons with the 49ers. Street was in his first season with the Eagles this year.
Over eight games in 2023, including one start, he posted 4 combined tackles in Philadelphia.
Street has spent his entire career in the NFC, including one season in the NFC South. He played for the New Orleans Saints as a rotational defensive lineman in the 2022 season. During that campaign, he posted career highs with 3.5 sacks, 29 combined tackles and 8 quarterback hits.
The trade for Street came just a few hours after Falcons head coach Arthur Smith told the media that Jarrett would miss the rest of the season with a torn ACL. The nine-year defensive tackle sustained the injury in Week 8 against the Tennessee Titans.
Street isn’t as talented or experienced as Jarrett. However, he will enter a rotation that already includes some quality depth players in Ta’Quon Graham and LaCale London. Atlanta will likely also expect more from starting defensive tackle David Onyemata for the rest of 2023.
It’s possible the Falcons will acquire more defensive line depth before the NFL trade deadline as well. Atlanta trading for a star defensive lineman isn’t out of the question either.
The league’s trade deadline is at 4 pm ET on October 31.
