Dom Izzo, Sports Director at WDAY-TV Sports in North Dakota has reported that Atlanta Falcons Head Coach Arthur Smith and General Manager Terry Fontenot will be in attendance at North Dakota State’s Pro Day.
The prospect of interest is obviously quarterback Trey Lance.
Lance had a huge sophomore season in 2019 before COVID shortened his NDSU career. Lance threw for 2,786 yards with a 66.9% completion rate. He had 28 touchdowns, and most impressively, zero interceptions.
The Falcons could genuinely be looking at Lance, but it’s also in their best interest to talk up drafting a potential quarterback. Sitting at No. 4 in next month’s draft, if the Falcons wish to trade down, their best option is to trade to a quarterback needy team.
Every team that has traded into the Top 5 of the draft in the last five years has taken a quarterback. This is something we’ve detailed on AllFalcons several times (All about the Quarterback)
Expect there to be a lot of chatter surrounding the Alabama’s Mac Jones and Trey Lance before the draft as there’s a good chance the top three quarterbacks, Trevor Lawrence, Zach Wilson, and Justin Fields could be off the board before the Falcons pick at four.
