The Atlanta Falcons appear to be close to choosing their new general manager according to a report by Ian Rapoport.
Terry Fontenot of the New Orleans Saints looks to be the leading candidate. The deal cannot be announced until the Saints are out of the playoffs, so this could be a similar situation as when Dan Quinn was hired. The Falcons had their man, but they couldn’t announce anything while the Seahawks were making a Super Bowl run.
Fontenot is currently the VP/Assistant GM for Pro Personnel for the Saints and would take on a Falcons squad that is the No. 4 overall pick in April’s draft, but is saddled with salary cap concerns.
This report is on the heels of Tennessee Titans offensive coordinator Arthur Smith getting his second interview for the head coaching position.
Fontenot has been with the Saints for 16 seasons and has been scouting director for the last six.
