Falcons Named ‘Potential Suitor’ for 2-Time Pro Bowl Edge Rusher

The Atlanta Falcons are expected to land one of the top edge rushers in the 2024 draft class. But on March 27, Bleacher Report’s Kristopher Knox argued the Falcons should pursue a trade for edge rusher Haason Reddick.

Knox named the Falcons one of two potential suitors for the 2-time Pro Bowler. Knox connected Atlanta to the Eagles edge rusher days after ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler labeled the Falcons a potential landing spot for Reddick.

“The Falcons are ready to win now after signing quarterback Kirk Cousins but could use pass-rushing help on the other side of the ball,” wrote Knox.

Reddick is entering the final year of a 3-year, $45 million contract. He will have a base salary of $14.25 million in 2024.

Spotrac reported the Falcons have just $2.69 million in cap space remaining. So, to make a Reddick trade possible, the Falcons would need to sign him to a long-term extension that lowers his cap hit.

Knox projected Reddick to be worth $43 million with $29 million guaranteed on a new 2-year contract.

Reddick will turn 30 in September, but the Falcons could use an edge rusher with his type of production. He has reached double-digits in sacks each of the past four years. Since the start of the 2022 season, Reddick has recorded 27 sacks in 34 games. He made the Pro Bowl in both 2022 and 2023.

His best statistical season came in 2022 when he had a career-high 16 sacks and 26 quarterback hits. He also led the NFL with 5 forced fumbles.

Fowler and Knox named the Arizona Cardinals the other potential suitor for Reddick this offseason. Reddick played the first four seasons of his career with the Cardinals. He also played for the Carolina Panthers in 2021 before joining the Eagles.

In 114 career NFL games, Reddick has posted 58 sacks, 69 tackles for loss and 99 quarterback hits. He has recorded 50.5 of those sacks since the start of the 2020 season.
