The Atlanta Falcons announced on Monday morning they had signed former New York Jets starting cornerback Bless Austin.
The Jets originally drafted Austin from Rutgers in the sixth round of the 2019 NFL Draft. He played in seven games as a rookie, starting six. In 2021 he started 10 games for the Jets and had his most productive season with 63 tackles.
He was injured that season, and the Jets cut him prior to the 2021 campaign. The Seattle Seahawks picked him up and he played in 11 games with one start in Seattle.
He spent the 2022 offseason with the Denver Broncos, but he was waived on the final cutdown day and didn’t make the Broncos 53-man roster.
Austin got a look with the Falcons in this offseason as a camp invite, and now he’s been signed to the 90-man roster.
In other Atlanta Falcons news, linebacker Mykal Walker was a surprise cut on Sunday. Walker started 12 games for the Falcons last year and totaled 107 tackles.
Walker’s No. 3 jersey was quickly scooped up by safety Jessie Bates who has worn No. 30 during the preseason.
