Fresh Start, Desmond Ridder Traded to Cardinals

The Atlanta Falcons got their QB1 on Monday, and on Thursday they traded their 2023 starter to the Arizona Cardinals.

“The Falcons are trading former starting QB Desmond Ridder to the #AZCardinals, source said as jjones9 reported,” wrote Rapoport on X.

Rapoport followed up by saying the Falcons get wide receiver Rondale Moore in return.

Moore was originally a second-round pick by the Cardinals in the 2021 NFL Draft. He had 40 catches for 352 yards and a touchdown last season.

He brings a very different skillset to the Atlanta Falcons. He measured 5’7 and 180 pounds with a 4.28 forty at the NFL Combine. His 42.5″ vertical leap brings back memories of Spud Webb (age check).

Ridder entered the 2023 season as the unchallenged starter and compiled a 6-7 record as the starter with 2,836 yards passing, 12 touchdowns and 12 interceptions. He actually led the team with five rushing touchdowns last season, but he also fumbled 12 times.

His turnovers seemed to come at the most inopportune times. Usually in the Falcons’ or their opponents red zone.

Desmond Ridder gets a fresh start where he’ll be the backup to Kyler Murry, and the Falcons get a quick, explosive, run after the catch weapon on offense.

Atlanta added wide receiver Darnell Mooney earlier this week and re-signed KhaDarel Hodge today. They’ve massively upgraded their speed at the position in hopes of maximizing the investment in new quarterback Kirk Cousins.
