Julio Jones was traded to the Tennessee Titans over the weekend and there had been much speculation as to what number he would wear. That speculation ended on Tuesday.
Jones wore number 11 for the Atlanta Falcons for his career, but that number was taken by A.J. Brown. Brown had repeatedly said that he would give the number to Jones when he began tapping up Atlanta’s receiver several weeks ago.
Brown was good to his word, but said that Jones turned him down.
Never one to try and demand the spotlight like some top receivers, it’s no surprise that Jones respected Brown enough to choose a new number. That number was revealed by the Tennessee Titans on Tuesday.
Jones wore No. 8 when he played for Nick Saban and the Alabama Crimson Tide, so there was much speculation he would choose 8 at Tennessee. But he took No. 2, Matt Ryan’s number with the Falcons.
Is there some unspoken meaning behind him choosing Ryan’s number? A tribute maybe? We likely won’t find out from the media shy Jones himself, but we’ll keep an eye out for an explanation.
