Matt Ryan’s Restructured Contract creates a lot of Salary Cap Room for Falcons
Matt Ryan and the Atlanta Falcons have agreed to restructure his contract. The move saves the Falcons $14M on the 2021 salary cap and puts the Falcons under now according to SportRac.
Zach Klein of WSB reported the news on Twitter. Ryan’s cap number goes from just over $40M to just under $27M.
The move puts the Falcons at roughly $6M under the cap, so Atlanta won’t be going on a Patriot-like spending spree now. It does get the Falcons close to being able to try and add some good depth at positions of need.
The Falcons did just that on Tuesday night when they acquired blocking tight end Lee Smith from the Buffalo Bills.
Ryan’s move was the biggest to get the Falcons under the salary cap by the Wednesday March 17th deadline, but he wasn’t alone.
Jake Matthews restructured his contract last week to help the Falcons salary situation. Dante Fowler agreed to take a pay cut, and Tyeler Davison helped save the Falcons $2M on Wednesday.
