Which Falcons Star Needs more Help in NFL Draft?

Adam Schein of NFL.com compiled a list of players around the league who need some help to reach their best in 2023.

Naturally, he chose a wide receiver because the narrative around the Atlanta Falcons in the national media is they have some obligation to trade a haul of picks and spend a fortune on Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson.

In this case, he picked Drake London as the player who could use the most help.

Speaking of teams that should be pursuing Lamar Jackson … I’m still at a loss as to why Atlanta’s hand-waving the 2019 MVP. But apparently, that’s the case. Weird. Still, I took notice when Calais Campbell picked the Falcons. He’s such a great guy with a thirst to win. Maybe he’s right, and Atlanta will indeed “surprise a lot of people this year.” If that ends up being the case, it’s a safe bet last year’s No. 8 overall pick will play a huge role in the rise.

Ironcially, Schein answers his own question when discussing London’s potential for 2023.

London enjoyed a fine rookie campaign, finishing with 72 catches for 866 yards and four touchdowns. But he really took off in the last four games of the season, when fellow rookie Desmond Ridder got a trial run as the Falcons’ starting quarterback. The duo displayed great chemistry, hooking up 25 times for 333 yards in those four contests. No small development, considering Ridder will apparently get the full reins in 2023. But both second-year players need some assistance in the passing attack. Kyle Pitts returning to full health and realizing his immense potential would be huge, but Atlanta needs more juice in the receiving corps.

Going into free agency, Grady Jarrett would have been an easy pick for the Falcons’ star who needed the most help. General manager Terry Fontenot has brought in plenty via free agency including Campbell, defensive tackle David Onyemata, and safety Jessie Bates among others.

The Falcons’ biggest needs are pass rusher and cornerback, but Schein is right when he says the wide receiver room needs a boost in Atlanta.

A healthy Kyle Pitts and London form a terrific duo, but they could use some help with a quick, inside receiver as well as more depth.

The Falcons have been vocal about backing Ridder heading into the 2023 season, and getting more help at the wide receiver position should be a priority.
